Each and every one of us has our own set of challenges and self-defeating behaviors, the thing is, though, most people aren’t even aware they are there.
So how do we become aware of the beliefs and behaviors that limit us from achieving our fullest potential and following our dreams?
The answer is in your habits, but before you can start successful habits you need to eliminate the bad habits of thinking, feeling and behaving that have gotten you to where you are today. We do this by creating a reset, this can be done by taking a trip away from your environment or by journaling every day about your life, what you want it to mean and what you want to get out of life.
By engaging in this kind of self-awareness you can begin to notice the patterns in your decision making that lead to you following the wrong path.
Some common self-defeating behaviors include:
- Negative self-talk, self-hatred
- Comparing one’s life to another
- Looking to the past for answers to the future
- Failure to make a prompt decision
- Engaging in constant distraction
Some common successful habits include:
- Waking up early to implement a morning success ritual
- Strategic planning
When studying successful people you’ll find that they often wake up early to get a head start on the day while others may sleep in as late as possible. You’ll find they are also very strategic in how they spend their time, money and energy.
The idea is to live as intentionally as possible, rather than simply “going with the flow of life”. If you decide to just go with the flow, you may not like where it takes you 10 years down the road, so take control of your destiny. It starts with the decisions you are making right now, each and every small decision we make is accumulating to create our life, our destiny, and our legacy.
